Our committee of nine industry experts meets regularly to stay on top of the issues real estate employers and others in the industry need to know.

These are the types of questions we can answer for you anytime:

  • If an industrial inspector or union official walks into your property, what are their rights and responsibilities? And what yours are?
  • What are the correct procedures for discipline and dismissal? What are the valid reasons you can dismiss someone? Where do you go for assistance if a former employee files an Unfair/Wrongful Dismissal claim against you?
  • What do you do if you have to make an employee's position redundant? Are you aware of the circumstances under which you can do this, and the procedures you must observe?
  • What if a job applicant accuses you of discrimination for not hiring them? Do you know about the impact of the Privacy Legislation on this?  And do you know how to handle a complaint through the Anti-Discrimination Commission?
  • If you take over someone else's business and staff, do you know what responsibilities you need to acquire with respect to those employees? Can you place those transferred employees on probation?
  • If an employee leaves after a number of years service because they have accepted a position elsewhere, are they entitled to pro-rata long service leave?
  • Do you know which of your employees are entitled to superannuation?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions, you need to be a member of REEA.
